SA blogger goes on the expedition of a lifetime

Local superstar blogger and SAAHJ member, Melanie Mendez-Gonzales, was selected as a national social media superstar to participate in The 2014 @American_Latino Expedition to Grand Teton National Park.

The Expedition, provided by the American Latino Heritage Fund, is a public education and awareness campaign designed to connect people to America’s national parks and bring the national parks to American Latino and multicultural communities everywhere.

Melanie is the creator of ¿Qué Means What? – a Latino lifestyle blog based in San Antonio which began with her own “cultural identity crisis” as a Mexican-American out of touch with her heritage. She currently writes to inspire others to celebrate their own culture with stories about familia, education, Latinos in entertainment, and more. You can read about her experience at The Expedition here.

She volunteers with various organizations in San Antonio and online as an advocate for Latinos in tech and education. In 2013, Melanie was chosen as one of the Top Blogueras by Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media (LATISM). She is also the co-founder of Texas Latino Bloggers – an online community for Texas Latino bloggers to amplify their voices.

As a social media manager, Melanie supports brands and organizations to share their stories online. She and her family enjoy exploring San Antonio, playing or watching sports, and eating tacos.
