SAAHJ welcomes a new Latina-owned publication in town!

The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists is excited about a new Latina-owned publication by a San Antonio native and travel writer that highlights the positive attributes of San Antonio’s Southside community.

April Monterrosa launched Live From The Southside in August as editor-in-chief and writer for the online and print magazine.

“We are absolutely thrilled that the Southside has a Latina-owned magazine in its community,” said Silvia Foster-Frau, board president of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. “We look forward to supporting April Monterrosa in her exciting and groundbreaking new venture. Local, community-based news is so important for a thriving neighborhood and city, especially during a pandemic.”

It began as an online newsletter and blog in February 2019, and is now Monterrosa’s fully realized magazine that will feature stories by local contributors on Southside businesses, education, tastemakers, culture, art, and familial pride.

“My vision for the magazine is to motivate our community to support each other, personally and professionally.” Monterrosa said. “The goal for the magazine is to improve and expand community relationships through promoting positive events, stories, healthy living, and businesses.”

Monterrosa’s writing has been published in Good Housekeeping and SAXtreme Magazine. She is a certified tourism ambassador for the city of San Antonio, and a member and leadership graduate of the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Live From The Southside is available online and in print at its website
