High school juniors and seniors in the San Antonio area are eligible to apply for the SAAHJ Teen Team program. Apply here.
The application deadline is Sept. 6, 2024. Applicants will be notified by Sept. 13 if they are selected for the program.
Vision
The SAAHJ Teen Team program will develop the next generation of dynamic and diverse journalists who represent their communities. Every mentee, regardless of their race, gender identity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation or cultural background, will have the support and guidance they need to thrive in their future journalism careers. As part of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists, we also strive to ensure the development of Hispanic journalists to increase their representation in newsrooms.

Our mission is to educate, empower and inspire junior and senior high school students in the San Antonio area to explore the field of journalism and be future leaders in storytelling.
About SAAHJ Teen Team
The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists (SAAHJ) is proud to announce the launch of the SAAHJ Teen Team, a mentorship program for San Antonio-area juniors and seniors dedicated to developing the next generation of journalists.
Previously known as the Express-News Teen Team, the program was generously gifted to the SAAHJ in 2024.
Launching at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the program will require selected students to meet twice a month on Thursdays (with three Thursdays in October). Students will receive lessons from journalism and communications professionals, mentorship opportunities with journalism professionals and field trips to local newsrooms and colleges.
We’re expecting to welcome about 15 to 20 students in each cohort. Check out the interest form (linked below) for more details about expectations of mentors/mentees.
The program will officially kick off on Sept. 19, 2024 and conclude at the end of May 2025.
