SAAHJ Applauds KSAT 12 promoting two Latina journalists to anchor desks.

The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists is thrilled that San Antonio viewers of KSAT-12 will be greeted each morning by a Latina anchor.

Stephanie Serna and Sarah Acosta are two Latina journalists that have recently been promoted to the anchor desk by KSAT 12.

The ABC affiliate announced on Thursday that it promoted Stephanie Serna to anchor of Good Morning San Antonio, which airs weekdays. Serna, a native San Antonioan, will also anchor GMSA @ 9.

Sarah Acosta, a South Texan from Corpus Christi, will replace Serna as anchor of GMSA Weekends.

“Now more than ever it’s important that newsrooms represent the communities they cover. We congratulate our ABC affiliate KSAT 12 for promoting not one, but two Latinas to anchor positions,” SAAHJ President Nora Lopez said. “These are important roles that not only reflect the diversity of our community, but also give young Latinos and Latinas in San Antonio visible role models. We look forward to great work from Stephanie Serna and Sarah Acosta. Congratulations.”

Acosta has been a reporter at KSAT since 2018. Serna has been with the station for more than a decade.

“As a San Antonio native, (Serna) brings an understanding of this community and its residents to the anchor desk, with a genuine warmth that is perfect for a morning audience who’s looking to our team to start their day off right,” said KSAT 12 Vice President and General Manager Phil Lane in a news release.

The promotions show that KSAT values the importance of having someone who is in touch with and invested in the community on their most visible platforms. We applaud KSAT for these promotions!
