Libby Castillo joins SAAHJ board as at-large communications officer

The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists is excited to announce Libby Castillo as the organization’s at-large communications member following a special election held this fall.

The director of strategic communications at Goodwill San Antonio and an Alamo City native, Castillo said she’s excited about using her experience to help SAAHJ grow its local impact through outreach, member engagement and ongoing planning for the 2024 gala.

“SAAHJ has always been a welcoming space for us to gather as professionals, network, share successes and ultimately support each other and future professionals,” Castillo said. “It just felt like the right time to increase my participation in the group.”

She’s joining current SAAHJ President Nancy Preyor-Johnson; Vice President Laura Garcia; Secretary David Lynch; Treasurer Austin Martinez; At-Large Print/Online Member Lindsey Carnett and At-Large Broadcast Member Angelica Casas on this year’s board, which continues its 36-year-old mission of advocating for more diverse Texas newsrooms.

Castillo said that mission is of particular importance to her given her Texas background.

“As a Tejana born and raised in San Antonio, it is empowering to see representation in the newsroom of people who look like me, talk like me and who truly understand the many facets that make up the beautiful culture of South Texas,” she said.

Castillo will hold the role of at-large communications member until August 2024.
